We are more than conquerors
By Dustin L Dyer
The old saying, "what goes in must come out" remains true in several
ways. The world we live in powered by the enemy, "satan" wants to
compress you into itself. It matters not what group, race, religion or
whatever you belong to, the world's influence over you is undeniable.
But to establish a relationship with God means to develop a heart like
His, God's heart transcends this world,
it is beyond the range and the limits of this world. We without Him
cannot know His heart and we without Him cannot transcend past this
world. It takes discipline, prayer, and self-control, it takes staying
in His Word daily and turning away from the things of the world. No we
cannot be perfect, but with the knowledge of God and a relationship with
Him we gain the knowledge we need to deal with our failures, our vices,
and our points of struggle and how to overcome them. But like the old
saying, what we take in is what we produce outwardly to the rest of the
world. As believers we can choose to be set apart, we can become an
example of God's Love for His glory not ours. People of the world watch
us, they want to see just how genuine we are, they wait for us to mess
up. They must realize that being a believer doesn't make you perfect, it
makes you humble, it makes you love even when you are hated. It's a lot
like the cycle of the butterfly, it's a transformation into something
beautiful. The world is what it is, it's a spiritual battleground but
the core of the battle is not the world, the core of the battle is
inside all our individual minds. Our mind is where the struggle begins.
We must conquer ourselves, we must die to ourselves to live for God.
Things that take us away from God we must remove from our lives, we must
do a spiritual house cleaning . The question is how much are we willing
to surrender in order to Love God. It takes baby steps every day, it
takes prayer, it takes staying in the Word to grow us, to transform us.
What we take in is what comes out of us.
Paul says it best in Romans 8,
5 Those who live according to the flesh have their minds set on what
the flesh desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have
their minds set on what the Spirit desires. 6 The mind governed by the
flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace. 7
The mind governed by the flesh is hostile to God; it does not submit to
God’s law, nor can it do so. 8 Those who are in the realm of the flesh
cannot please God.
9 You, however, are not in the realm of the flesh
but are in the realm of the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God lives
in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, they do not
belong to Christ. 10 But if Christ is in you, then even though your body
is subject to death because of sin, the Spirit gives life because of
righteousness. 11 And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the
dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give
life to your mortal bodies because of his Spirit who lives in you.
